As any parent of a preschooler can tell you, handwriting can lead to many tears on any given day. We all know what can happen if the "A" doesn't look quite right or the baby "p's" tail is too long. Thanks to our curriculum, Handwriting Without Tears, handwriting can truly be fun!
Developed by Jan Olsen, an occupational therapist who has specialized in handwriting for more than 25 years, this curriculum uses a multisensory approach that makes writing an automatic, natural skill. Lessons are incorporated beginning in our PreK 4 year old class and extend all the way to cursive skills in 4th grade. Fridays, in particular, are are a little more special in K2 with occupational therapist and parent, Susan Philpott. She volunteers her time and leads the class for this multisensory play session. With curved and straight wooden pieces, the popular Wet/Dry/Try slate chalkboards, and other items, the kindergarteners love practicing letter-writing. Having fun with Ms. Susan is a wonderful addition to our Friday mornings!
