Fall Community Outreach Project

Help with our first school-wide community outreach project for the year by bringing in items for McKamey Animal Center. This project was a hit last year, bringing in lots of goodies for the animals and students had the opportunity to visit the shelter to deliver the items and have playtime with the animals.

Items will be collected throughout the month. You will note that several of the items on the list can be "upcycled" items from your home, such as empty toilet paper tubes, plastic grocery bags, old rugs and bathmats, etc. This would be a great way to re-use some items and help the furry friends at McKamey.

Beginning Monday, there will be collection bins in both buildings for the following items:

Peanut Butter
Dog toys, such as Kongs
Tug and Rope Toys
Tennis Balls
Plastic "poop" bags / grocery bags
Hard Cat Toys (no cloth, jingle bells, etc.)
Paper Towels
Old towels and bathmats
Empty toilet paper rolls

The McKamey Center is also registered at Target, Wal-Mart and Lowe’s so you don’t have to guess what they need. Access their gift registry online or in the store by using the first name McKamey Animal and the last name Center. If you have any questions, please visit www.mckameyanimalcenter.org or call the center directly at (423) 305-6500.

*Dog/cat food and treats are not accepted at this time, as the center uses a particular brand.

HATS OFF to parent John Creasey, who created a fabulous garden plan for the Sprouts club. He presented his plan this past Monday to the students for feedback. John owns Creasey Horticultural and we are very appreciative of his time and efforts in helping establish our garden.

FLU UPDATE: Please visit the following link for information about flu symptoms and treatment. Additionally, please alert the school office as soon as possible if your child becomes ill. http://www.flu.gov/pdfs/infoforeveryone.pdf

HATS OFF to fourth graders Rachael Lane and Lauren Turner, who will appear as "munchkins" and "winkies" (guards for the Wicked Witch) in the local production (and launch) of the nationally touring musical "The Wizard of Oz." These students, along with 10 other local Chattanoogans, will have the experience of working in a real-life touring theater. Way to go!
