Another Update from China

Hi all -

I have had a hard time getting to a computer - sometimes we don't have one, sometimes the line is too long, sometimes the room is locked, etc. etc. etc.!!

Wonderful experience. We arrived in Suzhou (su jo) today and I can tell it's going to be all about the gardens, ponds, and silk! Our room overlooks a huge pond with fish who JUMP up to see if you have a little present! The rocks, landscaping, shaded areas...everything beautiful. It's nice to be in a "small" city (only 2 million, compared to the 20 million we'll see in Shanghai - ha!) We've been to a lot of big tourist sites, but I really have loved the simpler times with people in the streets, little markets, stores, etc.

Saw massive beautiful stone animals - 600 years old on one of the walks around Sun Yat Sen's memorial. We have finished Beijing, Xian, and Nanjing. The Nanjing Massacre Memorial is as beautifully done as the Holocaust Museum in D.C. - I could have spent much more time there, but on a group tour we have really rushed sometimes. We did make it to the Nanjing Confucian Temple, and that was a special treat - very nice to slow down and take a breath. Ironically, after that I went to McDonalds!! Too funny. Took lots of pictures - it was packed. :)

Silk factory tomorrow and some gardens then on the Shanghai for our final destination in China. I have collected much art! Can't wait to share.
