Second Grade Finds a Beat

On September 23rd Matt Evans and Christie Burns from The Folk School of Chattanooga educated and entertained 2nd grade with their musical talents and knowledge. In connection with the Core Knowledge Curriculum, students explored elements of music such as humming a melody, tapping rhythms, and recognizing a steady beat. Students became familiar with instruments in the string family. They learned where each instrument originated as well as the parts that make up the instrument. We all enjoyed listening for similarities and differences in sounds made by the various instruments and learning the song, Oh Groundhog.
