St. Peter's School In The News
If you missed our feature story about Greenlife lunches in LaTrice Currie's "Eye On Health" yesterday (WRCB-Channel 3), visit http://www.wrcbtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11105813 to view the story online.
Food For Thought
This week's "Food for Thought" is everywhere- in the hallways, on the walls and on the grounds of St. Peter's! Just this week, we spotted:
- Ms. Bo's Pre-K made garden planters from hay bales (these can be totally composted at the end of the season to coordinate with their Recycle Unit.) The students worked together to fill the bales with soil using shovels, buckets and hands, dug holes to plant seeds ( beet, radish, turnip, mustard greens, collards) and watered. At the close of the planting they had a prayer thanking God for our blessings, each child and for our plants.
- Ms. Holly's Pre-K studied "a rainbow on their plate," displaying a variety of colorful, healthy foods.
- Ms. Ceacy's Pre-K created posters depicting "What does going green mean?" (see below)
- K1 and K2 celebrated birthdays with healthy treats (oatmeal apple cookies and yogurt parfaits)
- 1st grade planted a container garden with lettuce and radishes
- 2nd grade is studying food pyramids in conjunction with their science lessons about the digestive system.
- 3rd grade is walking each day as part of our "Walking Works" program through Blue Cross Blue Shield. They are even going to have "walking buddies" with the three year-old Pre-K two days a week. What teamwork!
- 4th and 5th graders are deciding which healthy fruits and vegetables to include in the stained glass mosaic panels they're creating for the kitchen/cafeteria.
SOCCER: We are happy to announce our 4th and 5th grade soccer team coaches. Thanks to parents Bart Whalen (parent of Knox) and Bill Winchester (parent of Hannah), both in Ms. Ceacy's preschool class. This duo comes with extensive coaching experience, and we are very grateful they are sharing their talents with our students. Look for a soccer sign-up sheet in the next few weeks to join the team.
