Over the next several months, I will be spending some time sharing information about our unique Core Knowledge Curriculum with you. Quite frankly, it took a long time for me to wrap my head around this curriculum having not been an educator. Once I started reading and exploring their website (http://www.coreknowledge.com/), I was amazed at the scope and content that our children are presented with beginning in preschool. Of course, all parents are initially concerned with the basics (the good old reading, writing, and arithmetic) which obviously are the fundamental pieces of learning. However, there is another equally important element --foundational knowledge. Attached is a wonderful video that was posted on the Core Knowledge blog. It explains very clearly the need for a "content" based curriculum. It takes about 10 minutes to watch, but I think you will find it very interesting!
