Pumpkin Time

First graders have been busy putting their math skills to work with a seasonal favorite, pumpkins!
Students made their own predictions, estimating the number of seeds in the class pumpkin. After scooping out and cleaning the seeds, studetns grouped sets of 10 seeds into baggies. Then each baggie was assigned a place value (1's, 10's, 100's, etc.). They quickly learned that 10 baggies (of 10 seeds each) had to move to the hundreds place!
These students worked hard to count all 438 seeds and had a great time doing it!
