Fifth Graders Trek Up Lookout Mountain

"Rock on!" became the 5th grade rally cry on their Civil War trip as they ascended the last trail, bordered by the monstrous rocks on the side of Point Park. A boisterous, spirited group, bellowing, "We are St. Peter's..." and an occasional, "Looking for Dracula" entered the park where a couple of tourists joked, "Hey, keep it down, you all are having too much fun!"

All 22 students, supported by 14 parents and grandparents, teacher Carol Lockrow, and her dog, Toby, were involved in the 9 mile excursion on Friday, Oct. 30th. It was a pleasant Chattanooga Fall day, with cool breezes and vibrant leaves as they hiked the diverse trek. Starting at Mrs. Lockrow's home in St. Elmo, with the hound dog in the lead, they headed up Guild Trail, past Ruby Falls to Cravens' House for lunch with a view. Then, it was on to Point Park, Battles of Chattanooga, and the restful finale ~ the Incline down to the foot of Lookout Mtn.

Proud adult survivors of the '09 Civil War trip (and with NO battle wounds) ~ Shawn and Allyson Arrington, Ellen Behrends, Allan Collins, Jake Kelley, JJ and Phyllis Narus, Melissa Pritchett, Bart and Jan Quinn, Rob Taylor, Tamra Taylor, Tracy Tindall, and Beth White.

What a day to appreciate the importance of Chattanooga during the Civil War AND to be immersed in the beauty of the South's Scenic City. "Rock on, Chattanooga!"
